Belted Kingfisher Megaceryle alcyon

The Belted Kingfisher breeds throughout most of the United States and Canada.  The more northern birds migrate south during the winter months to the southern United States, Mexico, Central America and northern South America.

This species is a year-round resident of Florida.  During the summer months, they are more common in the Panhandle and the northern part of the state.  They nest from April through July.  During the winter months, they are more common in the central and southern part of the state.
