Northern Bobwhites are year-round residents in open habitats of southeastern North America. They range as far north as Massachusetts and southern Ontario and as far west as Wyoming and New Mexico. This popular game bird is in steep decline. It is estimated that its population has dropped about 85% over the past half-century.
In Florida, this common resident breeds in every county in the state. However, it is largely absent from the Everglades, the agricultural areas of Palm Beach County, and coastal Broward County.
