Red-tailed Hawk Buteo jamaicensis

The Red-tailed Hawk ranges throughout most of North America.  They nest throughout much of Canada, the United States and Mexico.  They are permanent residents in most of the United States and Mexico.  However, the birds in Canada will migrate south for a few months during the summer.

In Florida, this species is widely distributed.  It is an uncommon to common resident throughout most of the state, except for the southern tip of the peninsula and the Keys.  They breed during the months of February through June.
