Great Crested Flycatcher Myiarchus crinitus

The Great Crested Flycatcher breeds throughout the central and eastern United States from southern Canada to south Texas and the Florida Keys.  It winters from Mexico to northern South America and from south Florida to Cuba.

In Florida, this species is one of the most common breeders.  Spring migration occurs from Mar-May. The males arrive first to establish their territory.  Egg laying takes place during April-June.  Fall migration usually occurs from mid-August to mid-October.  Although most birds leave the state, a few in south Florida remain through the winter months.
