Western Sandpipers breed in the subarctic and low Arctic regions of Alaska and extreme northeastern Siberia. They winter in coastal areas from southern British Columbia and New Jersey south to northern Peru and Suriname.
In Florida, this species is a common fall through spring visitor (August-May). They can be found along both coasts. During migration, they can be found inland, but over the winter months, it is rare to find them inland, especially south of Lake Okeechobee.
