Mammals

North America supports about 400 species of mammals, many of which are found in Florida.  Most mammals live on land, but a few, such as whales, dolphins, and manatees, live in the water.  Mammals all nourish their young on milk produced by the female’s mammary glands.  Most also give birth to live young and, with a few exceptions, have a covering of hair on their body. Following are some mammals common to Florida.
